Darts is a popular social game that involves throwing small pointed missiles (darts) at a circular target (dartboard) fixed to a wall. The board is divided into color-coded sections, each with corresponding scores when hit by a dart. The idea is to get the highest score among players.
There are many types of dartboards but the most popular is the tournament-quality boards usually made of natural sisal fibers. These fibers are compressed under tons of pressure and banded with steel, then bonded to a non-warping backboard. The surface is then sanded smooth and then screen-printed with the appropriate colors. The wires defining the sections, as well as the number ring, are then installed.
This type of board is more durable and requires less maintenance than any other type of dartboard because the fibers part to make way for the dart and close back when they are removed. Hence, there are no holes or damage on the board.
A regulation dartboard measures 17 3⁄4 inches (451 mm) in diameter. It can be safely shipped as long as proper packing precautions were observed. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship a dartboard.
Wrap the board generously with bubble wrap. Make sure that the all parts are well padded and protected. Use tape to keep the wrap in place and prevent it from unfurling.
Place the dartboard in a cardboard box with a layer of packing materials on the bottom. The box must be large enough to accommodate the board and allow at least 2 inches of extra space on all sides, top and bottom. Fill the sides and top with more packing materials until there are no void spaces inside the box. Close the box and seal with heavy-duty packaging tape. Make sure to secure all seams and openings with tape to prevent the package from bursting open during transit.
Address and label the package and bring to the post office or shipping company.
