Because of its many moving and fragile parts, an electric desk fan must be properly packed for shipping to avoid breakage and damages. Here are some helpful tips on how to properly pack and ship a desk fan.
Disassemble the fan. Most often than not, desk fans come with removable blade, cage, and struts. Wrap the blade in at least two layers of bubble wrap.
Enclose the wrapped blade inside the cage. Use more bubble wrap in case the blade moves inside the cage. Wrap the cage in 2-3 layers of bubble wrap and place inside a box. Make sure that it snugly fits into the box and does not move around. Use more bubble wrap to fill spaces so it doesn’t move.
Wrap the fan motor which is attached to the base with bubble wrap and use packaging tape to ensure that the motor is fixed in place and does oscillate. Wrap it again in 3-4 layers of bubble wrap and in another box that provides a snug fit. Use more bubble wrap or other packaging materials such as newspaper, packing peanuts or shredded paper ti fill up empty spaces.
Put all screws and other hardware that you take out during dis-assembly in a plastic zip-lock bag and tape it to base and motor package.
Get a large shipping box that can accommodate the two previously packed boxes. Layer 3 to 4 inches of packing peanuts at the bottom. Arrange the two boxes inside the bigger box and fill the remaining spaces with more packing peanuts. Make sure that the smaller boxes are in the center of the large box and there is extra spaces for packing materials on all sides, top and bottom of the big box. The contents of the box should not move when shaken.
Close the box and seal with clear packaging tape. Address and label the box and take to a reputable shipping company.
