LED (light-emitting diode) lighting is all the rage these days. It has become the illumination method of choice among environment-conscious individuals as well as those who wish to cut on their energy costs. LED lights are also longer lasting than the conventional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and produces less heat.
This type of lighting comes in a variety of foms including bulbs, ropes and lamps with LEDs already built in. LEDs are extremely durable and built with sturdy components that can withstand even the roughest conditions, making them easily transported or shipped.
While sturdy, LEDs are not entirely indestructible and can still get crushed or damaged by impact. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship LED lights to ensure that they arrive in excellent condition.
Brand new LED bulbs are best shipped in their original cardboard boxes. The bulbs should fit snugly in their boxes, if not, use bubble wrap or tissue paper to fill spaces and keep the bulb from moving. Stack the boxed bulbs neatly inside a sturdy shipping box lined with sheets of styrofoam pads on the bottom and four sides. Fill any remaining spaces with more foam pads or bubble wrap so that the boxed bulbs will not move around. Place another sheet of foam pad on top before closing and sealing the box with packing tape.
For table and pendant lamps with built in LEDs, wrap the entire lighting fixture generously with bubble wrap. All parts must be covered and cushioned well. Place the fixture in a sturdy box with packing materials on the bottom and fill the remaining spaces with more fillers up to the top of the box. The idea is to keep the item immobile when the box is closed.
Close and seal the box with packaging tape, making sure that all seams are reinforced and will not pop open during transit. Label and address the package and take to the post office or shipping company.
