A garden shear, also called hedge shear or hedge trimmer, is a gardening tool shaped like large scissors and used for trimming, cutting or pruning ornamental grass, hedges or bushes manually. Some models even come with telescopic handles to easily prune tree branches.
Because of its pointed ends and sharp blades, garden shears must be properly packed prior to shipping to prevent it from puncturing the package and causing harm to shipping personnel. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship garden shears.
Tie the bladed ends of the garden shear together with cable ties. Alternatively, you can wrap the blades in the newspaper and secure them with packaging tape. This will prevent the blades from moving from the pivot.
Wrap the garden shear in pieces of cardboard, paying extra attention to the pointed end. Then, generously wrap the shears in bubble wrap so that every part is cushioned and the pointed parts are well-padded and will not puncture the packaging.
Get a sturdy shipping box that can accommodate the garden shear and provide extra 2-inch space on all asides, top, and bottom. Fill the bottom of the box with a layer of packing peanuts and lay the shears on top. Fill the remaining spaces on the sides and top with more packing materials. The box should be well-packed and there is no way for the item inside to move or shift around. Close the box and seal all openings with heavy-duty packaging tape.
Address and label the package and take to your local post office or preferred carrier.
