How to Ship Tea

Tea is the second most widely consumed beverage in the world after water. It is rich with powerful antioxidant called tannic acid and offers a myriad of health benefits such as reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, treat some forms of cancer, promote oral health, manage blood pressure, help with weight control, improve antibacterial activity, and increase bone mineral density.

Herbal teas are available in a wide variety of flavors including lemon, orange, mint, chamomile, lavender, spice, and blueberry, all with distinct effects and benefits to the drinker. They can be either bagged or in loose leaf form. Properly packed and in acceptable amounts, tea can be safely shipped without any hassles. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship tea.

Whether bagged or loose, make sure to place tea in clean, dry and air-tight containers with sealable lids. Containers should be made from odor-free materials with no holes to keep freshness in and prevent entry of moisture or microorganisms. Food-grade plastic containers, glass jars and tin cans can be used when shipping tea.

Seal lids with clear tape to ensure that they will not pop open during transit. Wrap the containers in bubble wrap to provide cushion and protection in case of collision. Extra cushioning must be provided when shipping tea in glass containers.

Place the wrapped tea containers inside a sturdy shipping box with a layer of packing materials in the bottom. Fill any remaining space on the sides and in between items with more packaging materials to prevent movement. Close and seal the package with heavy duty packaging tape.

Address and label the package and take to a post office or shipping company. Choose a fast service so that the package reaches its destination immediately and avoids the risk of getting exposed to the elements.
