A nebulizer is a medical device that uses compressed air to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. It is used by both children and adult to treat respiratory ailments such as cystic fibrosis, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
The most common type of nebulizers is the jet nebulizer which typically consists of a medicine cup and mouthpiece connected to a compressed air machine by a plastic tubing. Nebulizers are usually operated using electricity or rechargeable batteries.
When transporting a nebulizer, it must be properly packed to ensure that it arrives intact and without any damage. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship a nebulizer.
Pre-used nebulizers must be properly cleaned before packing to avoid the spread of infection or diseases to other users. Wash medicine cups, mouthpieces and tubing thoroughly with warm water and mild detergent. Dry all parts completely with clean soft cloth. Wrap the all attachments separately with bubble wrap secured with tape. Also wrap the machine generously in bubble wrap.
Place the nebulizer machine and its components inside its original box. If the manufacturer’s box is not available, use an appropriately-sized cardboard box which will snugly accommodate the nebulizer with packing materials on all sides, top and bottom. The package should be filled with sufficient packing materials to prevent the nebulizer from moving inside the box.
Place the boxed nebulizer inside a larger shipping box with packing materials on all sides, top and bottom. Use ample packing materials to ensure that the inner box should is immobile.
Close and and seal the box with heavy duty packaging tape. Address and label the package and take to the post office or shipping company.
