A baseball mitt is a glove worn to assist and protect the hand when catching and fielding balls during a baseball game. It is usually made of padded leather with webbing between the fingers. Kevlar is also used in making modern baseball mitts.
There are different types of gloves used for baseball, each designed for specific player positions. The catcher’s mitt is the most popular and is also used when playing catch. Vintage baseball mitts are also popular collectors’ items especially those autographed or used by famous baseball personalities.
Baseball mitts are usually sturdy but they still require proper packing to avoid any damage especially when shipping valuable gloves. The mitt’s stitches, padding and shape are designed to protect the hands and improve performance during the game. Once deformed, the mitt will not be able to serve its purpose. Here are tips on how to properly pack and ship a baseball mitt to ensure that it arrives intact and in perfect shape.
Use a sturdy and appropriately-sized shipping box. The mitt should snugly fit into the box with enough space for packing materials to prevent movement.
Place the mitt in a plastic bag to protect it from the elements like moisture and dirt. Then wrap it in bubble wrap. Put the wrapped glove inside the shipping box and fill empty spaces with packing materials such as packing peanuts or bubble wrap to prevent movement.
Close the box and shake a little to check if the content is moving. Add more fillers as necessary to keep the mitt in place. Close the box and seal with packaging tape.
Address and label the box and take to your local post office or reputable shipping company.
