Reptiles are hardy animals that adapt well to captive environments. However, they must be in a stable environment especially when being shipped to ensure that they survive being confined in a small space during the trip. Using the right shipping supplies and making sure that the temperature is right are the essential things to consider when shipping a live reptile. Below are some tips on how to ship live reptiles.
Get a cardboard box. A standard 12″ x 9″ x 6″ 1/2″ is best for shipping small live reptiles.
Place insulated foam pieces inside the cardboard box. This is important in shipping live reptiles. Do not skip this process!
Put the deli cup or cloth bag which contains the reptile inside the insulated box. Add extra newspapers around and on top of each container or bag and ensure that it fits securely inside and will not move around when the box is handled and thrown around.
Depending on the temperature outside, add either a hot or cold pack. Wrap the heat/cold pack in a thin layer of newspaper and then tape it to the top of the lid.
Close the box and secure tightly with packaging tape.
Address and label the package and take to your local shipping company.
