Cupcakes have long been a popular treat but recently, these miniature indulgences have become the most popular desserts. Some even say that cupcakes are the perfect desserts as they come in a wide variety of flavors, sized perfectly for individual serving, can be devoured even when you are on the go, look appetizing whether plain or elaborately frosted, and excellent for a mid-morning coffee break, afternoon tea, a kid’s birthday party or even a wedding reception!
Cupcakes also make perfect gifts and can be sent even thru the mail! However, proper precautions in packing must be observed to ensure that your baked wonders arrive safely and delectable! Whether store-bought or home-made, here’s how you should pack and ship cupcakes:
Make a cupcake separator. Cut a strip of poster board 10 inches long and 4 inches wide. Take the scissors and cut (four) 3-inch slits along the length of the poster board. Cut another piece of poster board into four equal-size pieces of 5 inches long and 3 inches wide.
Place each piece of 5-inch poster board inside the slits made along with the 10-inch piece of poster board. Set the finished product aside. This separator will ensure that your cupcakes will not bump into each other while in transit.
Take a 12x6x10-inch rectangular aluminum tin and place a cold pack at the bottom. Take a 10-inch strip of aluminum foil and fold it in half lengthwise. Place it on top of the ice pack in the tin.
Take a 10-inch strip of the parchment paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Place it on top of the layer of aluminum foil. Use the scissors to cut a 5 x 8-inch strip of the bubble wrap. Place the strip of bubble wrap on top of the parchment paper.
Place the cupcake separator inside the tin. Adjust the cardboard pieces so they provide the same amount of space for each cupcake.
Place a cupcake in each of the slots in the separator. A tin this size can accommodate a total of eight cupcakes.
Put on the tin’s lid and secure with clear tape. Place the tin in a shipping box with a layer of packing peanuts at the bottom. Fill the box with more packing peanuts to ensure that the box does not move when shaken. Close the box, seal and attach address and labels.
Take the package to your local USPS office or the shipping company of your choice. Pick overnight delivery of the fastest shipping option available.
Reminder: These tips are applicable only for cupcakes without frosting.
