Like any other electronic device, a hard disc must be properly packed before shipping. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship a hard disc.
The first step is to wrap it in an anti-static bag. These bags are usually plastic (PET) and prevent damage caused by electrostatic discharge. Seal the bag with tape.
The next step is to wrap it in at least two layers of pink bubble wrap. When packing electronics, always use antistatic packing bubble wrap (pink). Never use materials that will conduct electricity. This could damage your electronics during handling.
Get an appropriate sized box, that is a couple of inches larger than the device. Fill the bottom with packing materials such as bubble wrap or shredded paper.
Lay the hard disc on top center of the packaging materials. Fill the box with more packaging materials such that the contents will not move when the box is closed and shaken.
Seal and secure the box with packaging tape.
Address and label the box and take to your local post office or shipping company.
