Straw hats are in fashion especially during summer. This brimmed hat made of woven straw or reeds is a great gift for that lady who loves the outdoors, especially the beach. The hat is designed to protect the head from the sun but can also be quite fashionable when embellished, making them perfect accessories for outdoor events or English themed weddings.
Because they could flatten out or get out of shape when mishandled, proper packing techniques must be applied when shipping straw hats. Below are some simple tips on how to pack and ship straw hats to ensure that they arrive in pristine condition.
The first step is to look for a sturdy cardboard shipping box that can accommodate the hat and allow extra space on all sides for packing materials. The best option is a “double-wall” box which is thicker and stronger than ordinary boxes. Shipping is a “bumpy” process so a strong box is necessary to provide protection for the hat.
Fill the bottom of the box with shredded newsprint. You can also use newspaper but make sure to wrap your hat in a plastic bag first if you are taking this option. The ink of the newspaper could smudge into an unprotected hat.
Next, put shredded newsprint into the cone of the hat and place in the center of the box. This will help the hat keep its shape. Make sure that the hat’s brim is folded or creased in anyway.
Fill the box around the hat with more shredded newsprint.
The shredded newsprint provides cushioning for the hat and will prevent it from moving around in the box.
Close the box and seal with packaging tape. Address and label the package and take to the post office for shipping.
