Aside from golf balls and clubs, golf shoes are another important equipment in playing the sport. These shoes differ from other sporting footwear as they have spikes attached to the soles which aim to increase traction and help a player keep his/her balance during the swing or while walking on greens or wet courses.
The spikes used to be made of metal but complaints from groundskeepers about the damage they cause on greens prompted golf shoe manufacturers to introduce plastic spikes, also known as “soft spikes,” which make the shoes more comfortable and less damaging to the playing surface. These spikes are usually replaceable and can be screwed on and off the soles. Today, many golf courses have banned metal spikes, allowing only plastic spikes during play.
When shipping golf shoes, proper packing techniques must be followed to prevent the spikes from damaging the footwear. Here are tips on how to properly pack and ship golf shoes.
Pre-used shoes must be cleaned first prior to packing. Make sure to remove dirt, mud or grass trapped on the spikes and soles. Dry the shoes completely before packing.
Wrap each shoe generously with bubble wrap. All parts must be covered, most especially the soles, to prevent the spikes from causing damage. Use tape to keep the wrap in place.
Put the shoes inside its original box, with the spikes facing opposite directions. Add more bubble wrap of crumpled newspaper to fill empty spaces and keep the shoes from moving. Double box with ample packing materials on all sides. Make sure that the inner box is immobile in the center of the outer box before closing and sealing with heavy-duty packaging tape.
Address and label the package and bring it to your local post office or shipping company.
