Rustic medicine cabinets made from recycled or reclaimed wood are popular accessories for bathrooms with country, vintage, or shabby chic styles. Barn wood, old railroad ties, or wood from demolished structures are usually used to build these cabinets. The worn-out look, peeling paint, and even termite damage can add charm to these medicine cabinets.
Shipping a wooden medicine cabinet is relatively easy as most of them are not too bulky and can be easily boxed. Properly packed, these bathroom accessories can safely arrive in its destination without any damage. Here are some tips on how to pack and ship a wooden medicine cabinet.
Measure the cabinet and use the dimensions to purchase a sturdy shipping box. Choose a box that is slightly bigger than the cabinet to provide 2 to 3 inches of extra space on all sides for packing materials.
Remove any item inside the medicine cabinet and close it shut. Wrap the entire cabinet with a couple of layers of bubble wrap and secure with packaging tape. Avoid sticking the tape directly on the cabinet’s surface to prevent leaving behind hard to remove adhesive residues. If the cabinet features a mirror on its door, lay a Styrofoam board on the front of the cabinet before bubble wrapping it.
Fill the bottom of the shipping box with at least 2 inches of packing peanuts. Place the wrapped cabinet on top of the peanuts, in the center of the box. Put more packing peanuts on the empty spaces on the sides and top. The box should be well-packed so that the cabinet in the center will not move or shift. Close the box and secure flaps with packaging tape. Also, reinforce the seams at the bottom of the box with packaging tape.
Address and label the package and take to a local post office or shipping company.
