A melodica also called the wind piano, blow-organ or key-flute, is a free-reed musical instrument played by blowing air through a mouthpiece and pressing the piano-like keyboard to produce notes. It is similar to an accordion or harmonica.
It is a fairly easy instrument to learn and is often used in children’s music classes. It is also more affordable than other musical instruments, making it an excellent gift to kids. The majority of commercially available melodicas are made of plastic and usually come with a straight tube mouthpiece, flexible tube mouthpiece extension, and carrying case.
Melodicas are usually light weight, compact and fairly easy to ship. However, it must be properly packed to protect it from damages due to impact during transit. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship a melodica.
Clean the melodica and mouthpiece making sure that everything is dry and spit free. Place each item inside the original packaging or accompanying carrying case. Make sure that every item is snug in the box or carrying case and doesn’t move. Use pieces of bubble wrap to fill empty spaces to prevent movements.
Wrap the entire original box or case in bubble wrap and secure with tape. Place the wrapped melodica in a sturdy shipping box with ample packing materials on all sides to prevent movement.
If the original box or carrying case is not available, wrap the melodica and its accessories in generous layers of bubble wrap before placing it in a shipping box with packing materials all around.
Address and label the package and take to the post office or shipping company of your choice.
