Candy apples are a great treat for kids and adult alike. They are easy to make and can be simply coated with sugar candy or can get a bit fancy with different toppings such as nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles and even gummy candies. Candy apples also make awesome gifts especially if homemade and personalized. They can be shipped without any problems as long as they are properly packed and sent via the quickest method possible. Here are some tips on how to pack and ship candy apples.
Get some cellophane bags and wrap each candy apple individually. Tie the bags using decorative ribbons. The bags will keep the apples fresh and prevent them from sticking together.
Make sure to wrap the apples when they have completely cooled down. Placing the apples while the caramel or candy coating is still warm can create condensation and cause the treats to deteriorate much faster.
Bubble wrapping each apple is optional but it will help keep the treats protected from bumps during transit.
Get a sturdy shipping box and layer some packing peanuts on the bottom.
Although candy apples can be shipped at room temperature, it is a good idea to place a frozen gel pack or dry ice pack on top of the peanuts as delivery trucks can get very hot. If using dry ice, make sure to wrap it in foil and packing paper before placing into the box.
Make a separator using cardboard strips and put on top of the packaging peanuts and cold pack. This will prevent the apples from rolling around the box and bumping into each other. Put an apple on each section of the separator and fill the extra spaces with more packaging peanuts up to the top of the box. The contents must not move when the package is gently shaken.
Close the box and seal with packaging tape. Address and label the package and take to a reputable shipping company or your local post office. Ship it either priority or overnight.
