Resin models are scale model figures of various subjects including popular personalities, anime characters, aircraft and ships, movie monsters, animals, dinosaurs, and firearms. Resin kits, also called garage kits, are available for hobbyists to assemble, paint and display. For some, assembling resin kits have become a lucrative business, selling the finished products to collectors.
Most commonly cast in polyurethane resin, these models are highly fragile as the material can be brittle and breaks easily especially thin and protruding parts. Thus, resin models must be handled with utmost care to avoid damages. When shipping, a model must be properly packed to ensure that it is well-cushioned and protected from impact. Here are some tips on how to properly pack and ship a resin model.
If the model comes with a base, remove it from its stand and wrap the items separately with bubble wrap. Make sure that all parts of the model are covered with bubble wrap, particularly protruding and pointed parts as these are prone to damage. You can also use pieces of bubble wrap inside hollow parts, such as legs, to provide support. Just make sure to avoid putting too much pressure on the model. Use tape to secure the wrap in place.
Place the model inside a sturdy cardboard box with a layer of bubble wrap or packing peanuts in the bottom. Then, fill the box with more packing materials up to the top to prevent the model from moving. Close and seal the box.
Place the box inside a slightly larger box along with the wrapped base. Also, fill the outer box with packing materials so that the inner box will not move around. Close and seal the outer box securely with packaging tape.
Address and label the package with “Handle with Care” and “Fragile.” Take it to your local post office or shipping company.
